Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has successfully organized the 1st International Conference of e-Learning in December 2007. In continuation with that success, the 2nd edition was hosted by UiTM with the inclusion and cooperation of MEIPTA and AKEPT as joint organizers, in December 2009. As part of a tradition in every two years, this time UiTM decides to bring the 3rdInternational Conference on e-Learning to a higher level by jointly organizing the conference with the Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization Regional Open Learning Centre (SEAMOLEC), Indonesia
and in cooperation of MEIPTA, Malaysia and Universitas Terbuka and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesia. The 4th edition was held in 2012 with the collaboration of The Society of Digital Information and Wireless Communication (SDIWC) and Ostrava Technical University in Czech Republic.
This 5th edition of the conference will focus on future scope of discussion and sharing new solution towards sustainability of e-learning. We believe future learning should emphasize more on electronic delivery, mobile approach and user friendliness while still focusing on the sustainability of the e-learning environment.
Accepted papers will be published by Springer in the Conference Proceedings with an ISBN. Paper accepted but not selected for publication in Springer, will be reviewed and considered for publication in International Journal on e-Learning and Higher Education-a joint publication by the i-Learn center and UiTM Press and Asian Journal for University Education (AJUE – a peer reviewed journal by ACRULeT)
STELLAR-ICeL 2015 will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on 26-28 May 2015. During this period, we will also be celebrating Kaamatan Festival in Kota Kinabalu.
The kaamatan Festival is an annual event in the cultural life of kadazandusun in Sabah. It has become one of the major national festivals in Malaysia. In its deepest sense, kaamatan festival is a manifestation of Creator and Creation relationship. It is part of a complex wholesome Momolian Religious system centred on the paddy rites of passage and the life cycle of Bambarayon- the in dwelling spirit of paddy. It is celebrated on the 30-31 of May every year. You might intersted to visit this festival in Kota Kinabalu right after attending this conference!

Dr. Abd Karim Alias is a Professor of Food Technology at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and current Director of the Centre for Development of Academic Excellence.
Over the last 21 years he has taught most of the food science and food technology courses in the curriculum. He always aspires to be a good educator and researcher. Enthusiasm, commitment, and creativity are the three elements that best define him as a teacher. Dr. Karim believes that teaching is an exciting adventure in which both the teacher and the students participate and cooperate to achieve a common goal. In 2002, Dr. Karim received the inaugural USM Excellent Educator Award and in 2010 he received the Anugerah Tokoh (Distinguished Person) in Anugerah Sanggar Sanjung. He also was the recipient of the prestigious Anugerah Akademik Negara award (National Academic Award) in 2008 for teaching.
Dr Karim has great interest in using the Internet as an alternative medium for learning and teaching. He has developed and maintained a few teaching portals, websites, and blogs related to teaching/learning and research. In his current role as the Director of the Centre for Development of Academic Excellence, he is responsible to design and run a professional development programme in technology-enhanced learning and student-centred learning for the academic staff. He is also involved as a trainer in the technology-mediated learning workshop and has conducted numerous workshops especially on using technology in teaching and learning. He is now leading a project to develop open educational resources (OER) for the university and so far has succeeded to produce more than 20 coursewares. He is also a co-Chairman of the Technical Committee for Malaysian MOOCs initiative, a project by the Ministry of Education.
On the research front, Dr. Karim has published more than 130 papers (h-index 23) in international citation-indexed journals and several book/encyclopaedia chapters. He also has published/presented more than 70 conference papers (7 of them as a keynote speaker). Dr. Karim is the recipient of more than 30 publication awards from USM. Under his supervision, 7 PhD and 30 MSc students have graduated. In addition, he has supervised three post-doctoral fellows. Currently Dr. Karim is supervising 9 MSc and 4 PhD students and 1 post-doctoral fellow. He is an editorial member of the Journal of Physical Science and Tropical Life Science Research (USM Publisher), the International Journal of Food Research (UPM Publisher), Food Hydrocolloids (Elsevier) and Journal Food Packaging & Shelf Life (Elsevier).
Ali Jafari (Persian: علی جعفری), is a serial entrepreneur who is well known for his research and entrepreneurship in the area of Information Technology (IT), more specifically, on development of a series of Learning Management System(s) (LMS). Dr. Jafari is currently working as a Professor of Computer and Information Technology at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology and Director of the CyberLab at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He continues to bring innovation and new perspectives to the smart learning environment industry to make teaching and learning easier and more powerful.
Recognized as a founding “Father of LMS”, Dr. Jafari has contributed his entrepreneurial savvy to three books, co-editing and authoring Handbook of Research on ePortfolios, Designing Portals and Course Management Systems for Learning: Beyond Accidental Pedagogy. He has presented papers and delivered keynote addresses in over a hundred national and international conferences. His research has been published in professional and scholarly journals on a variety of subjects in information technology. His research interests include user interface design, smart learning environments, distance learning, and intelligent agents both from conceptual and architectural perspectives, which guide the Professor’s passion for improving the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
Prof. Dr. Francisco J. Proenza is an authority on rural access to information and communication technologies and ICT applications for poverty reduction. After a 35-year career working in over 40 countries as Economist for international development agencies (Food and Agriculture Organization of UN, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, African Development Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development, UNDP), he joined academia to Direct the Amy Mahan Research Fellowship Program to Assess the Impact of Public Access to ICT (www.upf.edu/amymahan). Dr. Proenza is presently visiting professor of information and communication technology at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona (UPF).
